Guest reviews of The Ship at Dunwich
Thinking about booking a room at The Ship? We think you'll love every minute of your stay but don't just take our word for it. Here are some guest reviews from our satisfied customers:
Just spent a couple of nights at The Ship Inn to celebrate my wife's birthday. Room spotlessly clean, the White Company toiletries were a nice touch. The food was excellent and the pint of Adnams went down a treat. Good location for a relaxing break with plenty to see close by.
Perfect lunch spot
On our way home from Southwold we decided to take a detour to Dunwich.
Glad we did as we came across the Ship for a late lunch.
The smoked salmon and horseradish scotch egg and whitebait were exceptional and more than enough for two.
Well worth a visit if you are in the area....and the nearby wild beach is unspoilt and lovely.
My favourite pub
We come here every time we visit Suffolk. The food is well priced, locally sourced and beautifully cooked. You can choose to eat either in the cosy bar, the wonderfully airy conservatory or in the pretty garden. We've never been disappointed and will certainly be back.
Lovely little hotel
This is a lovely place. Situated, as it says on the description on the website, literally 5 minutes walk from the beach. The rooms were very nice. Furnished well and big enough for myself, my wife and our 2 children. The meals on offer are exquisite. My personal favourite was the Pork and Black Pudding Scotch Egg, served with homemade piccalilli. Very moreish. I followed that with the rump burger (couldn't finish it because it was massive and filled up with my scotch egg). The staff were very friendly and always on hand to help.
Our 6th visit and still perfect
Just back from our 6th stay at the Ship - with our two (bad) Manchester Terriers. Everyone there is super welcoming. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The food is always good and this time there were a few different things on the menu - we tried as many as possible- again just right. We really do feel the Ship is a home from home - wonderful location and an overall chilled vibe. Always sad to leave.
This was our first visit and we were not disappointed. The pub had a great atmosphere and friendly staff. There was lots of choice on the menu as well as daily specials. We opted for the pork rillettes and homemade soup which was leek & potato, the starters were amazing and we couldn't wait for our main courses. I opted for Cod & Chips which was simply fantastic and my husband had the homemade burger also excellent. Sadly we didn't have any room left for a dessert. I highly recommend you pay this fantastic pub a visit you certainly won't be disappointed.
Very comfortable stay
We had a one-night stay, but really wish it could have been longer. We arrived on a Friday evening and were greeted by friendly staff, one of whom showed us to our room (Maison Dieu) and made sure we were happy with the room. We then went to the bar for an evening meal. The wood burner was lit which was lovely and there were quite a few people there, but it didn't feel overcrowded. We both had the lamb and apricot pie which was excellent, followed by a peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake - delicious! The beer was good too. The room was really warm, which was good as it was snowing outside. We had tea and coffee making facilities in the room and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was large and supplied with White Company toiletries. Breakfast on Saturday morning was superb. The full English kept us going nearly all day but there was plenty to choose from for anyone with a smaller appetite. All in all we would definitely recommend a stay at The Ship.
Cosy, cute, warm and friendly
Very friendly on arrival, shown to a lovely cosy and clean room. Cannot fault this lovely little Inn at all. Spotlessly clean, warm and cosy. Very comfortable bed. Excellent food in the evening in sweet little dining area (there are other areas for eating too) and a delicious breakfast with plenty of choice in the morning. Just the perfect place to relax! Dunwich is very cute.
I'll be back
I have stayed here 5 times now and will be back again in January...it is a very special place. The rooms and staff are delightful; nothing is too much trouble and you and your four legged friends are made to feel very welcome.
The food and beer are excellent both in quality and quantity! And then there is the setting...moments from a wild, windswept beach, the Dingle marshes and beautifully, positioned in a quiet nook between Southwold and Aldeburgh.
Fantastically dog friendly
We stayed in the converted out buildings for 2 nights with our Labrador, we absolutely loved it. The staff were so friendly and helpful, food and beer was lovely and the atmosphere was great. It was very busy all weekend but the service was fantastic, they even rang me before the stay to see if I wanted to reserve a table for dinner as they were getting booked up on the Saturday night, very considerate. The dog was made to feel very welcome by all staff which meant we could relax at meal times, even breakfast. There's lots of different rooms to eat in, the conservatory is especially nice in the mornings after a walk on the beach. We can't wait to go back, thank you to everyone who made us feel so welcome.
Suffolk's hidden gem!
What a fantastic place to stay. Brilliant location for walking and discovering Suffolk's beautiful villages and coast line. From the minute you arrive you are made to feel like it is your home away from home. Roaring fires, local beers, dog friendly, beautiful bedroom over-looking the marshes and all for a good price! What more can you ask? The staff are so very friendly with nothing being too much trouble. Dinner and breakfast was amazing and great to see so much local produce and home grown food used. It has to be one of the most wonderful, relaxing places that we have stayed in a long time. Love it and will be back very, very soon. Thank you
