Guest reviews of The Ship at Dunwich
Thinking about booking a room at The Ship? We think you'll love every minute of your stay but don't just take our word for it. Here are some guest reviews from our satisfied customers:
A very dog friendly pub and restaurant
Just back from a long weekend in Dunwich. We ate at The Ship Inn on Friday and Sunday nights. We found the staff friendly with a "no problem you have a huge dog with you" attitude. The food was above average I'd say and with the great location, just a few steps from the sea, I would highly recommend it.
A delightful country hotel/pub with a fantastic atmosphere ideally situated in sleepy Dunwich. This is the second time I have stayed here and would thoroughly recommend if one is looking for excellent food, well presented in simple style restaurant. Ideally situated close to spend time at Minsmere RSPB reserve. The bedroom I choose is in the courtyard, simply furnished with white cotton bed linen with The White Company toiletries.
Bring your Dogs and enjoy the beautiful Suffolk Coast and countryside
Nice place, shame about the football!
We stayed here for two nights, last week, using it as a base for visiting the RSPB reserve at Minsmere. No 'reception' when we arrived, but the bar seems to double up with that role. The barman fetched our key, gave us a brief tour and took us to our room. Clean, comfortable and equipped with hairdryer, kettle etc but no fridge or safe. My guess is that those aren't really necessary in rural Suffolk. Good, fast wifi connection.
We had our evening meals in the bar & very good they were. And the English breakfast kept us going all day, with just the lightest of snacks midday.
All the staff were pleasant and friendly without being always 'inyourface'. The location was brilliant for visiting Minsmere. We also had a couple of evening walks around Dunwich.
Our only problem was that after dinner on the second evening we went back to our room and watched England being beaten by Uruguay in the World Cup. And we can't blame The Ship for that!
All in all, I can understand why the BBC used The Ship when they were filming Springwatch.
Another great stay
Have just come back from another lovely weekend at The Ship. Such a relaxing atmosphere, lovely food, really welcoming staff. We've stayed here about half a dozen times now, and this definitely won't be the last.
Great few days away
We stayed as a couple on Monday 8th July for 2 nights. The welcome was relaxed and friendly. Great out of the way location which is what we were looking for. We had the attic room which was cool even on a warm day. Lovely bed and plenty of hot water. We ate both nights in the Ship. Menu great and the food was well balanced and varied we had the scotch egg with black pudding both nights as so good. Locals all friendly and will be going back.
My wife and I stayed here last weekend, to attend a wedding not too far away. It was a great weekend weather wise and the staff at The Ship couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. We had one of the rooms on the garden which was well proportioned and very comfortable. We were disappointed not to be able to have a sandwich on arrival at lunchtime, but the recommendation of the light-bite alternative was well received and very tasty. We did not have dinner but the menu looked good and the cooked breakfast next morning was absolutely first class. We will definitely be back.
Very much enjoyed a mid week deal offered by the owners. Excellent main dishes and also the starters were more than adequate for a mid day snack, excellent choice and very speedy service. Very full choice of breakfast menu, all with local produce. Our room, Beacon Hill was very peaceful, overlooking the rear beer garden, but could be more noisy in the summer season. Located very close to the beach and a good base for long coastal walks, and the Minsmere RSPB centre. If you enjoy a peaceful location, especially out of season, go there.
A beautiful retreat
We drove through snow blizzards to get there, but it was well worth it. This lovely old pub in Dunwich serves excellent food, sourced locally, using only free range eggs and the finest fresh ingredients in their varied and extensive menu. We were made to feel welcome immediately, and nothing was too much trouble. Even down to finding decaf teabags for me (as I am caffeine intolerant). The room was comfortable tastefully decorated in neutral colours and beautifully furnished, with under floor heating in the bathroom.
Gorgeous eating and drinking area's...the main bar had a big wood burning stove, and the pub is dog friendly, providing water for them to drink, and even cleaning up their little accidents! We felt really rested and looked after and would definitely recommend this pub hotel to all age groups.
