Dunwich, Suffolk

There’s plenty to discover around Dunwich. From long walks along the coast and quiet heathland trails to beach days, birdwatching and time spent by the sea, it’s the sort of place that’s easy to enjoy at your own pace. Dunwich Beach – dog-friendly all year round – is just two minutes from the pub, while RSPB Minsmere is close by for wildlife and days spent exploring. Whether you’re here for the day or staying a little longer, there’s always something worth heading out for before returning for a good meal at the end of it.

Dunwich

Just next door, Dunwich beach offers a quieter kind of coast. Once a thriving port, much of it now lies beneath the sea, adding to its sense of history. Today it’s known for its peaceful beach and heathland walks – right by the sea. It’s an easy spot to get some fresh air.

Southwold

Southwold is a classic seaside town with pier, colourful beach huts and easy charm. It’s good for a wander, with independent shops, cafés and the Adnams brewery all close by. Spend some time on the beach, stroll along the promenade or stop for fish and chips – it’s everything you’d hope for from the Suffolk coast.

Walberswick

Walberswick is a quiet stretch of coast known for its sandy beach, low dunes and wide open skies. It’s the sort of place you can spend hours without much of a plan – walking, crabbing along the harbour or simply watching the tide come and go. There are a couple of good spots for something to eat, but it never feels busy, even in the height of summer.

Aldeburgh

Aldeburgh is a little further along the coast, known for its shingle beach, fresh seafood and strong sense of character. Walk along the seafront past fishing boats, ‘The Scallop’ sculpture and pastel houses, or explore the independent shops. It’s always worth the trip.

Bring The Dog Along

Dogs are part of things here. Water bowls by the door, somewhere to stretch out under the table and plenty of attention from the team along the way. After a day on the coast, they’re more than welcome to come in, settle down and stay the night too.

We have a small car park to the side of the pub, however there is also free roadside parking in front of the pub, and the beach car park a little further along which simply requests a donation to park.

If you choose to leave the car at home, we are happy to recommend local cab companies.
